Who are you and what did you do?
My name is Zach Pottratz, but professionally I go by Zach P., since no one can really pronounce my last name. I’m an artist and photographer based in Missoula, MT. I’m currently studying towards a BFA in Photography, once I’m done with that, I plan to pursue Graduate school for an MFA.
Photography for me more than anything else, is an art form. I love the work of the OG artists in the medium, James Van Der Zee and Nadar, to name a few, but also recent artists, like Ethan James Green. I don’t like to just take portraits, or landscapes, or anything specifically. My interest in photography is very broad, and I love to have layered meanings behind my images. I take to photography as one would take to a canvas for a painting, I guess I just have a different way of painting it.
What does your typical day look like?
My typical day is pretty hectic, as I work a full-time job, and am a full-time student. But when I’m not working, or doing homework, I’m brainstorming ideas and getting inspiration for future projects, as well as taking photos whenever I have time.
How is your workspace setup?
My workspace is a little hectic sometimes, but usually consists of my computer and all my camera equipment. Oh, and my external hard drive; Can’t forget that.
What hardware do you use to make your content?
I have my trusty Macbook Pro, as well as my 3 cameras, my Canon 6D (+ 50mm 1.2 lens and 35mm 2.0), as well as my Nikon F8008 and Minolta XD5 film cameras.
What software?
Everyone’s favs: Photoshop + Lightroom.
